Explainer

Explainer: how wild multipliers work in all three Buffalo King games

Wild multipliers are the thread running through every game in the series, yet each title handles them differently. This explainer carries the date of 20 June 2024, when the third game was announced, and it relies only on Pragmatic Play's press releases and game pages. Where the sources are silent, we say so instead of guessing.

Buffalo King (2020): multipliers that stack

In the free spins of the original, wild symbols come with a multiplier of 2x, 3x or 5x. The game page adds that these values stack when more than one wild is part of a single winning combination. In plain terms, two or more wilds in the same win combine their strength. The sources do not explain the exact arithmetic of that stacking, so we do not state a formula.

Buffalo King Megaways (2021): values that accumulate on tumbles

The 2021 release says wilds carry multipliers of up to 5x, and that these values accumulate on individual tumbles. The game page says all wilds in the feature are tied to 2x, 3x or 5x. The game uses a cascading mechanic, where winning symbols are cleared and new ones fall in, so one paid spin can contain several tumbles. The release also says the format offers endless multipliers, which is its own description of the cascading build-up. It does not publish a cap on how high the running value can go.

Buffalo King Untamed Megaways (2024): grow and multiply

The third game combines two ideas. First, wilds appear only on reels two to five and carry 2x, 3x or 5x; the release states that several of them in one winning combination are multiplied between themselves. Second, during free spins, every win that includes a wild raises the multiplier of future wilds by 1x for the rest of the round. The game page words the starting range as 1x to 5x, which is how it reconciles with the growth rule, though the sources do not spell out the reconciliation.

Side by side

  • Original: fixed values of 2x, 3x or 5x, stacking inside a winning combination.
  • Megaways: values up to 5x, accumulating across tumbles.
  • Untamed Megaways: 2x, 3x or 5x, multiplied together and growing by 1x after wild wins in the bonus.

Why it matters for a player

Knowing which mechanic is in front of you explains why two bonus rounds can feel so different. A multiplier that can only appear in the free spins is a different proposition from one that builds during a cascade or keeps rising over a whole feature. These are descriptions of how wins are calculated, not guarantees of bigger results, and the published return figures of 96.06%, 96.52% and 96.02% are long-run averages. Use the free demos to see each mechanic in action and keep to a limit you set beforehand. The detailed lists are on the original, Megaways and Untamed Megaways pages.
